Gerard obtained a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 2011 and went on to study for a Master of Laws Degree specialising in Childcare and Protection, completing this in 2014 whilst serving his two-year period of articles of clerkship. His Master’s thesis was cited in the South African Law Reform Commission Issue Paper 32 of 2017 (investigating the Right to Know One’s Own Biological Origins (Project 140)). Gerard was admitted as an attorney in 2016 and joined Garlicke & Bousfield’s Litigation Department in 2017 as an Associate. He has also completed various courses through the Law Society of South Africa.
Gerard practiced for his own account from January 2020 until rejoining Garlicke & Bousfield in July 2022 as an Associate in the Litigation Department. He was appointed as a Senior Associate in September 2023.
