Rishal completed his LLB in 2009 at the University of KwaZulu Natal and thereafter pursued an LLM in Environmental Law, which was awarded in 2012. Rishal was selected as the first student from UKZN to be awarded the opportunity to study Finnish Law at the University of Eastern Finland, while completing his master’s degree. On returning from Finland, Rishal began his articles of clerkship at Garlicke & Bousfield.
In 2014 Rishal was appointed an Associate in the Corporate & Commercial Department of Garlicke & Bousfield and became a Senior Associate in 2018. In 2017, as part of Garlicke & Bousfield’s membership of the leading global legal network, Multilaw, Rishal was given the opportunity to attend an academy course on international contract drafting, negotiation and dispute resolution in County Wicklow, Ireland.
Rishal has worked on behalf of numerous multinational companies in the transport, IT, manufacturing, retail and sugar sectors. Rishal’s experience covers mergers and acquisitions, including competition approvals and limited or full due diligences; competition law matters; banking and finance transactions; construction and engineering transactions, environmental matters; and the drafting of various other commercial agreements, documents and advisory opinions.
